Frank Paulin met with success in the 1950s, when his work was praised by the New York Times and the Village Voice, which cited the “humor and compassion” in his photographs and his ability to perceive irony and record “poetic accidents.”

Paulin faded from view for nearly 50 years, before experiencing a comeback; a blurb in the New Yorker from February 2008 stated, “At eighty-one, Paulin is one of the rare photographers lucky enough to be alive for his ‘rediscovery’…”
